Dear Church Family,
On Sunday we’ll have a a great day of celebration. My ordination is a confirmation of the call God placed on my life when I was 21. When I sensed God calling me during my senior year in college I laughed. I had spent a great deal of time with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship and immersed myself in many retreats, Bible studies and even experienced my first overseas mission trip. But ministry? I had planned to be in the Forest Products industry where my father had invested four years of college tuition. God had other plans.
Secondly, we’ll celebrate the sacrament of baptism. Gary Dickens will share his testimony and why baptism is right for him, for such a time as this. My ordination enables me to perform this sacrament. Baptism was a command of Jesus as He was ascending into heaven. It signals an entry into a new community. Gary will confirm his baptism in a few weeks when he becomes a covenant partner.
Both ordination and baptism point towards God’s initiative in our lives. Gary and I are merely responding to God’s invitation to follow Him. We trust Him to follow through on His promises for believers who heed His call.
How have you responded to God’s initiative in your life.
See you Sunday,
Allen
