Dear Church Family,
What if…..instead of sitting silently in the pews while I preached, I asked some questions with the expectation that you would give me answers? What if….I asked a question and then told you to turn to your neighbors to have a short discussion? What if….I invited you to interject your questions and comments while I was teaching/preaching? Sounds pretty radical right? Don’t worry I won’t do it all at once. But I will be trying some new things.
Winston Churchill said, ““Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm”. As your transitional pastor, I want to test old ideas and try new ones. We have such a strong foundation of good, solid worship, a healthy denomination behind us and the Word of God to guide us. Let us not be afraid to take everything that is negotiable and ask if it’s worth keeping. And let us not be afraid to engage in metanoic practices that enable us to be God’s mission outpost in our corner of Monte Vista.
This Sunday we will finish the story of Lazarus. You might be saying, “Oh, Jesus raised him from the dead”….I know that story….I’ve heard it a hundred times. The amazing thing about God’s Word is that it is living and active, so be ready to learn something new. Our Scripture is John 11:38-47 and the title of my message is “The Glory of God”.
See you Sunday,
Allen
