Dear Church Family,
I watched on Youtube Robin William”s rendition of “The History of the Bible”. Yes, it was a bit profane but he asked a good question: “What do the Easter bunny and chocolate eggs have to do with anything?” Christians have done their best to explain how the secular counterpart to the great holiday(holy day) has to do with the true meaning, but let’s continue to work hard to get the message out.
I will be preaching on John 20:1-18 and the message is entitled “Why are you crying?” It’s the angel’s and Jesus’ question to Mary Magdalene. What was supposed to be the happiest event turned sour because she didn’t understand. The same occurred for Mary and Martha on the death of Lazarus and often in our present day, at the funeral of a believer.
I often say at the funeral of a believer, that we cry not for the deceased but for ourselves. It is indeed sad to lose someone we love. The one who dies as a follower of Christ is immediately taken into Jesus’ presence.
The message of Easter forces us to ask the question: “Where is our hope?” Upon examination of our daily lives reveals the answer. How do we spend our time, money and resources? Also, the message of Easter is for here and now. Faith in Christ is not just fire insurance to avoid Hell, but eternal life which begins when we are born again.
The church has good news. Let’s invite our friends and neighbors who may not have a clear picture of what that is. The following services are available this week:

Allen
