Dear Church Family,
The main point I’m going to try to make this Sunday as we look into Mark 9 is that “Reality is more than we first imagined.” Mark introduces us to the transfiguration of Moses and Elijah, demon possession, Jesus’ prediction of His death and resurrection and Hell. Crazy stuff and yet it’s more a part of our lives than we care to admit.
Okay, this may be a stretch, but life in the valley to an outsider may seem just as strange to a city dweller as these biblical themes. Think about it….it snowed today right? Is that good for the farmers or bad? It depends doesn’t it? Talk to one farmer and they’re thrilled. Talk to another one and they haven’t finished their field preparation and now it’s all muddy. And the rocks…does anyone outside the valley know about the rocks? And you have to pay for water to irrigate the fields…water that flows freely in the Rio Grande.
My job as a preacher is to link the past with the present. The realities described in Scripture were significant thousands of years ago and they still are today. Come prepared to have your view of reality challenged.
God Bless,
Allen
